What foot conditions can we treat?
Skin Conditions
Corns and calluses can be a pain, but luckily there are ways to manage them. Initially the hard skin and corns are removed with a sharp blade and then a file is used to smooth the area. This may sound daunting, but a routine podiatry treatment should be painless. In fact, you will feel immediate relief after your treatment and as if you are walking on air!
We will also advise on home treatment, footwear, orthotics and devises that will reduce the discomfort for longer.
Painful Feet
Injury, overuse or conditions causing inflammation can cause foot pain limiting your ability to work and exercise. We offer a comprehensive musculoskeletal assessment and treatment service.
Nail Care
Toenails can be painful, embarrassing and hard to reach.
As podiatrists we see a lot of toenails!
Long, occasionally very long indeed, thick, misshapen, ingrowing, fungal, bruised, just to name a few. We offer professional nail care whatever your nails are like, however old you are. This may be simple nail cutting if you cannot reach your feet or more comprehensive treatment for embarrassing and painful toenails.
Cracked Heels
Heels can often become dry, cracked, and painful. To treat them, we will initially remove the hard dead skin with a sharp blade - which sounds scary, but we are highly trained professional podiatrists and use scalpels as part of our daily practice. We then file the feet to smooth them and apply a deep-penetrating moisturising cream which will keep the skin supple and prevent further cracking. We have also introduced warm wax therapy, to enhance our podiatry treatments.
Children’s Feet
Feet come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. At Feet & Motion podiatry clinic we can see tiny feet - just a few months old, but are far more likely to see children once they are at school. This specialist area of podiatry is known as podopaediatrics and covers various foot ailments including structural issues (such as flat feet or hypermobility), ingrown toenails and verruca. Our podiatrists are all parents so can relate to your concerns and communicate in a relaxed and gentle way, putting you and your child at ease.
Nail Surgery
If you're tired of living with painful and problematic toenails, this treatment may be for you. Carried out by a fully qualified and HCPC registered podiatrist, it involves removing the toenails under local anaesthetic. The podiatrist will explain the full procedure to you as well as the aftercare required.
Diseases & Your Feet
Feet can be severely impacted by diseases such as diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. Mobility is reduced due to Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis and fibromyalgia. During our 3 year degree training podiatrists gain extensive knowledge about systemic diseases and the impact on people’s general health and feet. We are able to assess, diagnose and treat feet with neuropathy (damage to the nerves), circulation changes, skin damage (hard skin & ulceration) and infections. If required we will onward refer to specialists within the NHS.
Cosmetic Podiatry
At Feet & Motion we offer two cosmetic podiatry treatments - toenail reconstruction for damaged or fungal nails, and warm wax therapy for dry skin and cracked heels - this is also a beneficial treatment option for arthritic feet.
Our clinical team will remove the damaged area of the nail and rebuild it with resin to create a false nail the looks natural and healthy. The resins used in this process also prevent fungal growth and provide a barrier for natural, healthy nail growth underneath. In addition, the resin can be used to reinforce healthy nails to avoid damage from sports or exercise.
Foot & Nail Infections
Athlete's foot is a condition that is usually treated with over-the-counter medications. If the fungal infection has spread to your nails, we can reduce the thickness of the nails and cut them back. This will expose the infected nail bed so treatment can be applied to eradicate the infection from the skin and nail.
There are a variety of ways to treat verrucae, from topical solutions that can be done at home to more advanced clinical options performed by our fully trained podiatrists.
HCPC Registered Health Care Providers
The HCPC is the Healthcare Professions Council, and all qualified podiatrists and chiropodists should be registered. This helps uphold and maintain the high standards of healthcare across several professions within the UK.
Here at Feet & Motion, all of our podiatrists are HCPC registered and fully qualified for the work we undertake.
