Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave Therapy (sometimes referred to as extracorporeal shockwave therapy ESWT) is a safe and effective non-invasive treatment for chronic musculoskeletal pain. At Feet and Motion, we offer shockwave therapy is an effective therapy as part of your treatment plan for a wide range of injuries and conditions including:
- Fascia injuries such as Plantar Fasciitis: One of the most common causes of heel pain, this condition is often resistant to traditional treatments. Shockwave Therapy helps by reducing inflammation and promoting tissue repair.
- Tendon injuries such as Achilles Tendinopathy: Whether it’s caused by overuse or strain, Achilles tendon injuries can take a long time to heal. Shockwave Therapy speeds up the recovery process.
- Osseus (bony) conditions such a Heel Spurs or Haglund’s deformity: often associated with conditions such a plantar fasciitis and calcaneal bursitis, shockwave helps break down calcium deposits and alleviate pain.
- Connective tissue disorders, such as Dupuytren’s contracture: shockwave can help breakdown the fibrous nodules, improve range of movement and alleviating discomfort.
- Whether you’re struggling with muscle strain, sprains, tendon or ligament injuries, or joint pain, shockwave therapy can provide effective treatment and relief when other treatments have failed.

How does it work?
Shockwave delivers high-energy sound waves deep into injured tissues. This energy promotes cellular regeneration and repair by creating an inflammatory response in the soft tissue. As a result, injured tissues heal faster and remain stronger after treatment with shockwave therapy. Studies have shown this to be a safe and effective treatment and is recommended in the NICE guidelines as a safe and effective treatment.
Shockwave therapy is usually delivered in a treatment package of three sessions at weekly intervals. Severe or chronic conditions may require more than one treatment package.
