Understanding Bunions

Bunions are bony prominences that form on a joint at the base of your big toe. Bunions form when the bones in the toe and midfoot move out of place, forcing the joint out of normal alignment. This can happen for a number of different reasons; genetics, unsuitable footwear, abnormal gait, or problems with the supporting ligaments and tendons. You can also get a ‘tailor’s bunion’ which forms in the joint of the little toe. Bunions can make it difficult to find shoes that fit and many people feel self-conscious about the appearance of their feet. Frustratingly, this joint misalignment often gets progressively worse over time and becomes painful, so it’s important to understand what steps you can take to best support your feet in the long-term.

At Feet and Motion we offer a comprehensive musculoskeletal / biomechanics assessment and gait analysis services to diagnose and treat pain and injury. Understanding the biomechanics of your feet and lower limbs is essential for identifying the root causes of pain or discomfort and preventing further injury.
If you have pain and/or injury, then book a biomechanics assessment and let us help you get back to doing what you love.

Advanced Treatment Options for plantar fasciitis, Feet & Motion also offers a specialist digital gait analysis using our Footscan pressure plate analysis. This advanced technology can identify pressure points and abnormalities in your gait.

Based on these results, we can create custom orthotics designed to alleviate pressure and provide bespoke support. Additionally, we offer advanced treatments such as shockwave therapy and MLS laser therapy, to stimulate blood flow, kickstart the healing process, and reduce inflammation.
