All You Need To Know About Toenail Reconstruction
Toenail reconstruction is ideal for those that have had either some sort of trauma to the nail or you consider it unsightly, maybe even ugly. This includes fungal nails.
If you are due to have your feet exposed for any length of time, be it on holiday, spa days or even just out in the summer months, reconstruction of your toenails will give you the confidence and pleasure of being able to expose your toes without any embarrassment.
Here at Feet & Motion Podiatry Clinic, Horsham, we use LCN wilde-pedique products which are gel-like substances hardened with UV light. They are antifungal pedicure sculpting gels - very similar to gel nail varnish you may have heard of before.
There are just a few steps to regaining beautiful nails -
The original nail is prepared and any loose parts of the nail removed, and where necessary any thick nail is reduced.
The nail is then cleaned and disinfected.
The remaining nail is then buffed so that the product can adhere to the nail.
LCN gel is then applied in layers to rebuild the nail. Between each layer a UV light is used to harden the product.
Once the desired structure of the nail is achieved, the nail is then filed and shaped so that the nail has a natural look.
A gloss varnish is then applied to finish off and creates a natural look.
I recently reconstructed a 17yr old lady's big toenails that had both undergone nail surgery due to ingrown nails. Her nails grow slowly and she never wore open shoes due to her nails.
LCN lasts for approximately 4 - 6 weeks, depending on how quickly the nail grows. LCN can be painted with any varnish you may wish to use, to achieve your desired look.
Treatment time is between 30 - 60 minutes depending on how many nails are being treated. On average toenails take up to a year to completely regrow. However, this can depend on both the age and health of the individual.
The cost of this treatment starts at £40 for 2 nails or £80 for a full set.
No damage is caused to the original nail bed.
