MLS Laser Therapy

Looking for a painless, drug free, non-invasive treatment for pain, inflammation, and swelling? You’ve found it.

How does it work?

Unlike many other lasers our multilocked system (MLS) laser is certified by the EU MDR (Medical Device Regulations).

For maximum effectiveness and safety the MLS laser is a class 4 (high level) laser which combines and synchronises two specific wavelengths of light (905nm and 808nm) to target the main chromophores in biological tissues in the therapeutic range.

Chromophores are ‘elements’ in the body which can absorb light. Some key chromophores in MLS laser treatment are water, hemoglobin, melanin and cytochrome c-oxidase (CCO).

The cellular effect of MLS laser therapy:

1.      Chemically: This stimulates the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) giving the cell more energy to heal.

2.      Thermally: This encourages reduced viscosity (reduces swelling), reduced rigidity (muscle tension), increased vasodilation which means more blood flow to the area leading to increased oxygen and nutrients for improved healing.

3.      Mechanically: This increases protein synthesis and cell growth for improved tissue repair.

MLS Laser therapy is a safe, effective, and painless treatment for the following conditions:

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Tendonitis

  • Muscle spasm and pain

  • Arthritis

  • Bruising and swelling

  • Bursitis

  • Knee and hip pain

  • Sports injuries

  • Sprains and strains

  • Neuropathy

How many treatments will I need?

Laser therapy is cumulative, each treatment session building on the effects of the last. For this reason, we aim to treat you regularly to maintain and increase the effect from each treatment. The number of treatments needed varies depending on the condition being treated and your body’s response. Typically, you may need 2-15 sessions and we work on the bases of an initial course of 3 sessions carried out at 1 session per week. Acute conditions may need fewer treatments, chronic conditions may need more. We allow up to 30 minutes per session, depending on your individual needs. Treatment is usually between 10 and 25 minutes long, depending on your issue and treatment plan required.

Are there any side effects?

Occasionally the body will ‘over react’ to laser treatment and experience a temporary increase in inflammation lasting 24-48 hours. If this happens, don’t worry, this response indicates cellular changes and the healing process are underway. You will most likely feel better after this rebound effect than you did before treatment.

How quickly will it work?

We often see results after 1-3 sessions. Remember laser therapy is cumulative and you’re most likely to see results as you progress through the course of treatment.
