Systemic diseases that affect the feet

Podiatrists are highly trained professionals; degree qualified, Royal College of Podiatry members, and HCPC registered. We have a comprehensive understanding of systemic diseases that affect the feet. The predominate conditions are:

  • Diabetes

  • Rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory conditions

  • Neurological conditions

  • Parkinson's disease

  • Immunosuppressive conditions, including people under-going treatment for cancer.

Diabetes is a disease that develops from high blood glucose (sugar) which causes damage to the blood vessels and nerves. Loss of sensation in the feet is referred to as peripheral neuropathy and this is associated with wounds and ulceration. Early diagnosis, regular vascular and neurological checks, and proper care of the skin and nails is essential to maintaining foot health.

Please book an initial consultation where we will be able to discuss your foot care and carry out a comprehensive diabetic foot check.
